 Bachelor of Law (LLB) is a 3 to 5 years professional undergraduate course that can be pursued after completing 10+2 or graduation from a recognised board or university respectively. The Bachelor of Legislative Law ( LLB) is a foundational course in law that teaches students about legal procedures followed in the profession. The course helps the student  to develop a logical, analytical and critical understanding of legal affairs and teaches him/her how to use these skills for resolving social, legal issues of the society.

The three year Bachelor of Legislative Law is typically divided into six semesters, and students start with the basics of law before gradually moving into other subjects like constitutional law , family law, jurisprudence, IPC, law of contracts etc. As part of the course, students also have to undertake internships and training programmes at law firms, corporate organisations and courts to enhance their knowledge and gain real-life experience of the legal profession.

Eligibility Criteria

The following are the eligibility norms to pursue the Bachelor of Law Course-

• For 5 Years Bachelor of Law Course the candidates must have completed their Class XII in any stream from a recognised board and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks.

• For 3 Years Bachelor of Law Course, candidates must have completed a relevant bachelor’s degree or any equivalent degree in any stream from a recognised university and must have secured a minimum of 50% overall marks from a recognised university in any relevant stream in graduation examination.

• There is no specific age limit for pursuing a Bachelor of Law Course.

• And above all, it is essential to qualify the related Bachelor of Law (LLB) entrance examination to seek admission into a Bachelor of Law Course.

Admission Process

Admission to LLB courses can be done through two channels:

 1) On the basis of Entrance Exams-

• To pursue the Bachelor of Law (LLB) course, individuals must qualify the relevant Bachelor of Law (LLB) entrance examination. 

• Various Bachelor of Law (LLB) entrance examinations include DU LLB Entrance Exam, TS LAWCET, LSAT, CLAT, AILET, ILSAT, AP LAWCET, etc.

• After qualifying the relevant Bachelor of Law (LLB) entrance examination candidates are granted admission on the merit list prepared after Bachelor of Law (LLB) entrance examination results, counselling, availability of seats etc.

2) On the basis of qualifying exams-

• Direct admission based on qualifying exam marks is also a common admission route.

• In this case candidate is only expected to fulfil eligibility requirements like qualifying exam passed, minimum marks, and also nativity requirements. The merit list is prepared considering marks of the qualifying (graduate) exams.

Bachelor of Law (LLB) is considered a holistic profession; thus, only passing the degree of Bachelor of Law (LLB) exams is not enough. Clearing exams will definitely grant certification but one needs to acquire the skill set of Bachelor of Law (LLB) as well. Career Prospects

 If the candidate successfully completes the LLB programme, they may go on to practise as attorneys and advocates. The LLB degree holder has the choice of working for the government or as a private attorney. One can work as a corporate lawyer, judge, legal counsellor, or legal manager after earning an LLB degree. Candidates can also go for higher studies and pursue LLM and  PhD . At the master's level, one may opt for specialisation, which can give more muscle to one’s resume and job prospects.

Thus,  the significance of a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree in a country like India comes in huge demand, especially in contemporary times. The Bachelor of Law Course is considered as reputed, affordable and well-paid profession.
