Workshop on ‘Recent Advancement in Agriculture Field’ organized by AGC
The agriculture industry is being advanced by various information and advanced communication technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and the rapid emergence of these advanced technologies has restructured almost all other industries, as well as advanced agriculture, which has shifted the industry from a statistical approach to a quantitative one. Amritsar Group of Colleges organized a Two-Day Workshop on “Recent Advancement in Agriculture Field” on 14th and 15th December, 2022 with an aim to expand the student’s experience with the impact of research, growth and contributions. Dr. Indermohan Singh Rawal ji, Prof. University of Saskatchewan, Canada & University of Regina at Northlands College, Canada was the keynote speaker who guided the students to improve their hands-on skills through the modern technologies of agriculture-drone and satellite imagining.
Dr. Jatinder Singh Gill (Chief Agriculture Officer, Amritsar Department of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare, Punjab) gave a vivid description on the challenges and opportunities of latest technology in Indian agriculture.
Dr. Tajinder Singh (Deputy Director Horticulture Amritsar) opined that there is urgent need to train the officials to properly equip the farmers with modern technologies in agriculture.
Deputy Directors from Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the region and some government officials from agriculture department also expressed their satisfaction for this training programme indicating its relevancy in the present day agriculture. Along with them, some progressive farmers and Sarpanch from the region were also present there.
Honourable Dignitaries of the college, Advocate Sh. Amit Sharma Ji (Chairman AGC), Director Finance Madam Ragini Sharma JI, Principal Dr. V. K. Banga Ji, Dean UG Courses Madam Dipti Malhotra, Dean Student Affairs Mr. Gurjeet Singh, Head- Department of Agriculture Mr. Gurbir Singh marked their presence and highlighted the significance of technology in agriculture. College Management appreciated the efforts of the Faculty in organizing such workshops and emphasized that such activities should be a regular feature of a prestigious autonomous institute like AGC. Dr. V K Banga, Principal AGC acknowledged the need of such workshops and said," The conduct of such activities would keep the faculty and students abreast with the latest technological advancements."
